Midazolam is a short-acting benzodiazepine. It has sleep-inducing, sedative, anxiolytic and relaxant effects. When you buy midazolam from us, you get the oral formula. As a sedative, midazolam is used in anesthesia for premedication before surgery. In the context of analgesia with esketamine, midazolam is applied simultaneously to induce anterograde amnesia (reduced retentiveness for upcoming awareness). The guidelines of the professional societies of anesthesiologists describe this as necessary, since the associated pseudohallucinations caused by esketamine are extremely distressing for patients and may result in recurrent disorders, mostly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or anxiety disorders. Another application in intensive care medicine is the administration of a continuous infusion via a perfusor (syringe pump) for sedation lasting several days. Midazolam has no analgesic effect. The additional administration of an analgesic is therefore essential in painful conditions. Sedation with midazolam alone is possible, but is a rather rare indication.
There is clear evidence of risks to the human fetus associated with benzodiazepine administration during pregnancy. Particular caution should be exercised when benzodiazepines are used toward the end of pregnancy because irregular heart rate and hypotension may occur in the fetus and poor suckling, respiratory depression, decreased activity, decreased muscle tone (floppy-infant syndrome), and withdrawal symptoms and hypothermia may occur in the newborn. In animal studies, there was also evidence of behavioral disturbances in the offspring of dams administered benzodiazepines during pregnancy. Therefore, midazolam should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary.
